Offense powers Palestine past Afghanistan
Seven extra-base hits, 3 home runs leads to dominate 22-7 win
Palestine’s bats gave its pitchers plenty of run support during their second game of the West Asia Baseball Cup’s group play against Afghanistan.
By the end of the first inning, it was clear runs wouldn’t be hard to come by for Group A’s top ranked team. From top to bottom, Palestine’s line up produced. Palestine scored at least 1 run every inning. Eight different players drove in runs, four of them drove in at least 3 runs, leading to the 22-7 win.
The game ended after 6 innings because of a group play mercy rule. If a team is winning by 15 or more runs after 5 innings the game is over. Palestine took a 15-run lead during the top of the 6th inning.
Tariq Suboh, Hassan Ammar and Charles Haddad hit home runs for Palestine. Hadad and Suboh went back-to-back in the second inning. Ammar had an impressive 4 hit day, including his 3-run home run.
The barrage of runs began immediately when Palestine scored 4 runs in each of the first two innings. Haddad, who drove in 4 runs today, began the scoring with an rbi single. Rumsey Yasin followed up his great performance yesterday with another 2 hit game, including 3 rbis.
Paul Baba and Adam Musa split the 6 innings on the mound. Baba—another new addition to the team—debuted by getting his first win as a member of the team. He pitched 3.1 innings and struck out 5 batters while only allowing 1 hit. Musa, who started the game for Palestine, struck out 4 batters in 2.2/3 innings of work.
Palestine will have the day off tomorrow before it finishes off group play against Sri Lanka.
