Palestinian journalist you should know: Ahmed Al-Najjar
Gaza Journalist describes “apocalyptic” working conditions from a refugee camp in Khan Yunis
Israel has murdered more than 200 Palestinian journalists in Gaza since October 2023.
The targeting of journalists is not a new tactic for the Israelis. Three years ago Israel killed beloved Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh. No consequences followed, instead Israel intensified its targeting of media members reporting on Israel’s war crimes.
Obeid interviewed Ahmed Al Najjar, a Palestinian journalist based in southern Gaza, for the Palestine in America podcast via Zoom from a refugee camp in Khan Yunis. At the time of the interview, 212 Palestinian journalists were killed in Gaza by Israel and since Obeid spoke to Al-Najjar two more were killed.
During the interview, Al Najjar discussed how inaccurate the death toll is because of the amount of citizen journalists created by the genocide, who have also been killed. Additionally, he gave us a look at stories not covered by mainstream media, what it’s like to be a journalist in the middle of a genocide and his thoughts on western media’s coverage of Palestinians.
