Open Letter From Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP West) and the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM) to the UC Presidential Task Force for University-Wide Policing
On November 16th-18th, National Students for Justice in Palestine (NSJP) hosted its annual conference at UCLA.
Journalists — especially those in the U.S. — are still reluctant to report the Palestinian cause truthfully and fairly. We’ve witnessed improvements since Palestine in America’s inception, but nothing worth celebrating.

As the first Palestinian-focused art museum in the United States, it is entirely managed by Palestinians, and will showcase works by artists from Palestine and the diaspora.
I created the website and print magazine to give Palestinians in the United States a voice; to give Palestinian journalists an outlet that won’t censor their ideas; and to help mentor young journalists.
Palestine in America spoke with Saadaldin—University of South Florida (USF) Divest member and former Students for Justice in Palestine president at USF—to get an exclusive look into the campaign, what he learned and what advice he has for other prospective politicians.
Bashi is a part-time professor of Middle Eastern History at Pace University. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Arabic literature and a PhD in Middle Eastern Studies. Bashi decided that her “contribution as a feminist, anti-racist scholar of the Middle East” would be to use her expertise of the region in the service of Palestinian children.
The exhibition contains about 100 photographs, along with several paintings, video interviews, and maps. This exhibit focuses on everyday life in Bethlehem, from 1880 to present day.
This past winter, 30-year-old Najjar took her passion for cooking to the masses with her YouTube series “Abeer’s Day Off,” which so far consists of four 5-minute episodes produced by Chicago-based production company Revive. The easy-going, fast-talking chef from the South Side had always dreamed of starring on a network cooking show, but her auditions always ended with the same response: “You’re great, but you’re not what we’re looking for.”
Today Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) filed an appeal against a University of California Irvine (UCI) decision to punish them for spontaneously clapping and chanting at a May 10 speaking event with Israeli soldiers. The chanting broke out after one of the soldiers’ entourage physically assaulted a student.
